Carroll County Electric Department was chartered in 1938 and is a branch of the county government. Owned by the county, Carroll County Electric is governed by an independent power board. Board members are appointed by the county mayor and approved by the county commission. The board has five members and each serves a staggered four-year term. One member must be an incumbent county commissioner. Board meetings are held on the last Thursday of each month, beginning at 2:30 p.m., in the board room at the Carroll County Electric Department office building.
